Ulster Architectural Heritage secures funding for Hands-On Heritage Project.

Ulster Architectural Heritage is delighted to announce support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund grant for an exciting new 3 year project, Hands-On Heritage. This project aims to assist and build awareness of the stewardship of Northern Ireland’s built heritage. Made possible by the money raised by the National Lottery players, the project focuses attention on the general public who hold the physical, social and cultural heritage associated with buildings in high esteem but may lack the mechanisms to participate in their protection.

In this, the first year, the project will produce “Heritage: How To?” short guides and an interactive Heritage Recording and Reporting App. In years 2 and 3, Ulster Architectural Heritage will be carrying out roadshows across the 11 Local Authorities in Northern Ireland to encourage the public to use the new resources, to actively take part in promoting and protecting their heritage, and to highlight local significance and uncover hidden gems. UAH will also work directly with 6 local groups across Northern Ireland, selected through a competition process to develop a local list of heritage assets and enhance their skills in the protection of their local heritage.

Nicola McVeigh, Chief Executive, UAH

“I am delighted UAH has received this funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for the Hands-On Heritage project. UAH is excited to bring this new capacity building and public engagement project across Northern Ireland in assisting owners and groups with the practical, hands on experience of recording, researching and responding to the needs of built heritage in their area.”
